Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a psychiatric provider because I have always been driven by a deep desire to help people during some of their most vulnerable moments. Over 18 years in healthcare, I witnessed firsthand how profoundly mental health shapes every dimension of life — physical health, relationships, career, and sense of purpose. I knew I wanted to do more than treat symptoms. I wanted to combine compassionate listening with evidence-based psychiatric care to help people reclaim hope, rebuild confidence, and rediscover their ability to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. Completing advanced psychiatric training at the VA North Texas Health Care System deepened that commitment, especially in serving veterans and individuals with complex mental health needs.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adolescents, adults, older adults, and veterans who are ready to take an active role in improving their mental health — even if they are unsure where to begin. My clients often come to me navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, trauma, OCD, insomnia, grief, stress, or major life transitions. I also work well with individuals managing complex or co-occurring psychiatric conditions who have not found relief with previous treatment. If you value a provider who listens carefully, explains your options clearly, and treats you as a true partner in your care, we are likely a great fit.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Healing is not a straight line, and there is no perfect timeline for recovery. Meaningful progress often happens through small, consistent steps — not overnight breakthroughs. Some days will feel like setbacks, but those moments are a normal part of growth, not a sign of failure. I also want every client to know that asking for help is not a weakness — it is one of the bravest decisions you can make. My role is to walk alongside you, provide expert guidance, and adjust our approach together so that your treatment always reflects where you are and where you want to go.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Our first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where we will discuss your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, current challenges, personal strengths, and treatment goals. This is your time to share your story at your own pace in a safe, judgmentfree space. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, therapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, or additional evaluations when appropriate. In the early stages, we will meet regularly to monitor your progress, fine-tune your plan, and ensure you feel supported every step of the way. My goal is for you to leave each visit feeling heard, informed, and hopeful about the path forward.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is guided by compassion, respect, integrity, and the unwavering belief that every person deserves to be treated with dignity — regardless of their background, diagnosis, or circumstances. I value collaborative decision-making because I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my job is to bring clinical expertise to the partnership. Cultural humility is central to how I practice; I honor the unique experiences, values, and strengths each client brings. I am also committed to lifelong learning — staying current with the latest evidencebased treatments so that every client receives the highest standard of care available.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client's unique needs?
Every person is different, and treatment should never be onesize-fits-all. I take time to understand your symptoms, diagnosis, medical history, life experiences, strengths, cultural background, personal values, and goals before developing your care plan. I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches — including medication management, cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and lifestyle strategies — selecting the combination that best fits your needs. As your needs evolve, we adjust treatment together. I regularly check in on what is working, what is not, and what matters most to you, so your care always stays aligned with your progress and your life.
