I'm Jorja Stevenson, PMHNP-BC, APRN, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to compassionate, individualized mental health care. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma, grief and loss, chemical dependency, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are seeking more than symptom relief—they want to better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, and create lasting change. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and empowered to heal, grow, and reclaim their lives.

Having personally experienced trauma and loss, I bring an understanding of how deeply life's challenges can affect us—and how healing and resilience can empower us to reclaim our strength and build a meaningful life. My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric care with human connection, meeting each person where they are and helping them move forward.

Wherever you are in your journey, you deserve to feel heard, understood, and supported. When you're ready to take the next step, I invite you to schedule an appointment so we can begin working together toward the healing and change you're seeking.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I believe mental health care should be more than treating symptoms—it should be about truly seeing and understanding the person behind them. My own experiences with trauma, loss, and rebuilding have given me a deeper appreciation for the strength it takes to ask for help and begin again. I chose this profession so I could combine clinical knowledge with compassion, helping others find hope, develop the tools they need to heal, and recognize that difficult chapters do not have to define the rest of their story.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready for change, even if they aren’t quite sure where to begin. Many feel overwhelmed, stuck, misunderstood, or exhausted from trying to manage everything on their own. I value working with individuals who want to better understand themselves, actively participate in their care, and are open to exploring both medication and practical life skills when appropriate. You don’t have to have it all figured out—you simply need a willingness to take the first step, and we can work together from there.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

Healing is not linear, and needing support is not a sign of weakness. Some days will feel like progress and others may feel like you’re starting over, but every step still matters. You don’t have to have everything figured out before asking for help—sometimes the most powerful part of healing is simply choosing not to give up on yourself.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Your first session is about getting to know you—not just your symptoms or diagnosis, but your experiences, concerns, challenges, and goals. We’ll review your mental health and medication history, discuss what is currently impacting your life, and begin developing an individualized treatment plan together. In the early stages, we’ll continue building trust, evaluate how treatment is working, make medication adjustments when appropriate, and develop practical skills to support your progress. My goal is for you to feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your care every step of the way.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My own experiences with trauma, loss, and rebuilding have shaped the way I care for others and strengthened my belief in resilience, second chances, and the possibility of creating a meaningful life after difficult seasons. I value authenticity, compassion, honesty, and meeting people without judgment exactly where they are. These experiences remind me that healing is deeply personal, and I strive to provide the kind of space where clients feel truly heard, respected, and empowered to find their own path forward.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe there is no onesize-fits-all approach to mental health care. I tailor treatment by taking the time to understand each client’s experiences, symptoms, strengths, goals, and what matters most to them. Together, we develop an individualized plan that may incorporate medication management, therapeutic techniques, practical coping skills, and lifestyle changes. As your needs evolve, your treatment can evolve with you, creating a collaborative approach that supports meaningful and lasting progress.
