Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I have a deep passion for promoting the positive benefits of mental health management and reducing the stigma that too often surrounds it. Over the years, I have seen how supportive care and resources can truly transform lives—not only during times of crisis, but also as a proactive way to maintain balance and resilience in the face of daily stressors. I believe mental health care should be viewed as an essential part of overall wellness, just like physical health, and I am committed to creating a safe, compassionate space where individuals feel empowered to seek support without fear or shame. I understand what it is like to be in the patient's shoes, to be at your most vulnerable, and not sure who you can trust to help you through your circumstances.
What types of clients do you work with best?
As a provider, I have learned that treatment is most effective when the client is motivated in making strides to improving their mental health management. Desire to change thought processes, being mindful of oneself, and recognizing where changes can be beneficial takes work, daily application, and commitment. I encourage clients who are ready to take an active role in their mental health journey, whether they are seeking support for the first time or continuing care to reach out and see how I can help you. By building a trusting, supportive relationship, I help clients feel understood and empowered as we create personalized treatment plans that support both healing and long-term wellness.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
As a provider, I strive to promote a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel truly heard and respected. Everyone’s journey is shaped by unique circumstances. My role is not to criticize, but to listen with empathy, understand each person’s story, and work together to build a healthier path forward.
