I'm Dr. Oluwakemi "Kemi" Mitchell, D.N.P., PMHNP-BC, with extensive experience in mental health care. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based. I believe every person deserves to feel heard, respected, and involved in treatment decisions. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, insomnia, and emotional dysregulation. Some clients come to me feeling overwhelmed from previous treatments that didn't help, while others seek psychiatric care for the first time. My goal is to help you develop an individualized treatment plan that supports meaningful improvement.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and personalized. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, insomnia, and emotional regulation through medication management and supportive therapy. We will identify your goals, strengthen coping skills, and develop a treatment plan supporting greater stability and lasting emotional wellness.

Taking the first step toward better mental health can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate it alone. I strive to provide a supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. If you are ready to prioritize your mental well-being and work toward meaningful, lasting change, I invite you to schedule an appointment and take that step.

Get to know Oluwakemi

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a psychiatric provider because I have always been passionate about helping people feel heard, understood, and supported during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Throughout my nursing career, I saw firsthand how deeply mental health can affect every aspect of a person’s well-being, relationships, and daily functioning. Those experiences inspired me to further my education and become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I wanted to be able to provide compassionate, evidencebased care that addresses the whole person—not just a diagnosis. My greatest reward is helping clients better understand themselves, find a treatment plan that works for them, and regain a sense of stability, confidence, and hope in their lives.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready to better understand their mental health and actively participate in their treatment. I enjoy supporting individuals experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related symptoms, insomnia, emotional dysregulation, and life stressors. Many of my clients are seeking improved focus, emotional stability, healthier coping skills, and greater confidence in managing their daily lives. I especially value working with clients who appreciate open communication, collaboration, and an individualized approach that may include medication management, psychoeducation, and supportive therapeutic strategies.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish every client knew is that healing is not always a straight line, and meaningful change takes time. Progress can include good days, difficult days, and moments when it feels like you are standing still. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and you do not have to have everything figured out before beginning treatment. My goal is to meet you where you are, celebrate your progress, and work alongside you as you build the tools, confidence, and understanding needed to create lasting positive change.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

During your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming, respectful, and judgment-free environment where I take the time to truly listen and understand your concerns. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I take a comprehensive approach by reviewing your symptoms, mental health and medical history, previous treatments, medications, lifestyle, stressors, and personal goals. In the early stages of treatment, we will work together to develop an individualized, evidencebased plan that may include medication management, psychoeducation, supportive therapeutic strategies, and practical lifestyle recommendations. I believe in shared decision-making, so I will explain treatment options, potential benefits, risks, and alternatives while encouraging you to ask questions and be actively involved in your care. My goal is to build trust, monitor your progress closely, and make thoughtful adjustments as needed so you feel supported, informed, and confident throughout your mental health journey.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is deeply influenced by my years of nursing experience and my belief that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Working with individuals and families across different healthcare and mental health settings has taught me the importance of listening carefully, looking beyond a diagnosis, and understanding the whole person behind the symptoms. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and boardcertified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I value empathy, integrity, patient safety, education, and evidence-based care. I believe clients should have a voice in their treatment rather than simply being told what to do. I take the time to explain treatment options, answer questions, and work collaboratively with each client to develop a plan that fits their individual needs and goals. Above all, I strive to create a supportive, judgmentfree relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to become active participants in their mental health and overall well-being.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe every client’s mental health journey is unique, so I take an individualized, wholeperson approach to care. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and boardcertified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I consider each client’s symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, lifestyle, stressors, previous treatment experiences, personal preferences, and goals when developing a treatment plan. I tailor therapeutic interventions by meeting clients where they are and incorporating evidencebased strategies that fit their specific needs. Depending on the individual, this may include supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, psychoeducation, coping and stress-management skills, emotional regulation techniques, and practical strategies for ADHD and executive functioning. When medication is part of treatment, I use shared decision-making and closely monitor effectiveness, tolerability, and progress. My goal is to help each client feel heard, understood, and actively involved in creating a treatment plan that supports meaningful and lasting improvement in their daily life.
