Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

My journey to becoming a psychiatric provider was driven by a deep-seated desire to break down the barriers and stigma surrounding mental health. Witnessing the profound impact that mental health challenges can have on individuals and communities, I knew that I wanted to be a beacon of hope and support.

As a trusted provider who understands the diverse problems faced by Americans, I am passionate about being a representative for my community. I strive to provide compassionate care and to serve as a role model and advocate for mental wellness. My goal is to create an inclusive and understanding environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help and make positive changes in their lives. Through my dedication and expertise, I am committed to reducing the stigma of mental health and making a lasting difference in the lives of those I serve.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with adults who are facing a range of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD. I also have experience supporting individuals dealing with substance abuse issues. My approach is patient-centered, focusing on creating a safe and non-judgmental space where my clients feel heard and supported.

I am particularly passionate about working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including African American communities. I understand the unique challenges and complexities that can arise and strive to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care. My goal is to empower my clients to overcome their challenges and achieve their best possible health outcomes through personalized, evidence-based treatment plans.

Whether you are navigating acute care situations or seeking support in an outpatient setting, I am here to help you on your mental health journey. Together, we can work towards lasting positive change and improved mental wellness.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am excited to work with adults and the elderly who are struggling with symptoms of depression and anxiety which often comes with various life-changing experiences. Depression and anxiety can hinder personal growth by instilling fear and stagnation. In the heart of every community lies the unseen struggles of many individuals grappling with mental health challenges. My journey as a mental health provider has been one of profound discovery, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping adults navigate their paths to wellness. My goal is to help adults thrive in their careers, as well as, in their personal lives.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing I wish all clients knew is that seeking help for mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness. It's a courageous step towards self-improvement and healing, and it's perfectly okay to ask for support. Everyone deserves to feel understood, valued, and cared for, and I'm here to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for that journey. Remember, you are not alone, and together we can work towards a healthier and happier future.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

During our initial psychiatric evaluation, we will cover several important areas to understand your mental health needs and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Here's what you can expect:

Personal History: We'll discuss your background, including any significant life events, relationships, and family history of mental health issues.

Medical History: It's important to review your medical history, including any past or current medical conditions, surgeries, and medications you are taking.

Mental Health History: We'll talk about your mental health history, such as any previous diagnoses, treatments, hospitalizations, and experiences with therapy or counseling.

Current Symptoms: A detailed discussion of the symptoms you are currently experiencing, including their duration, intensity, and any triggers.

Lifestyle Factors: We'll look into your daily routines, such as sleep patterns, diet, exercise, substance use, and other habits that might impact your mental health.

Social and Occupational Functioning: We'll assess how your symptoms are affecting your daily life, relationships, work, or school performance.

Risk Assessment: It's crucial to discuss any thoughts of self-harm, suicidal ideation, or harm to others to ensure your safety and well-being.

Goals for Treatment: We'll set some initial goals and discuss your expectations and preferences for treatment.

This comprehensive evaluation helps create a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. My aim is to make this process as comfortable and supportive as possible.

Is there anything specific you'd like to focus on during your initial evaluation?

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In the first session, my primary goal is to establish a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship. I want to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and concerns.

During this session, I'll take the time to understand your background, current challenges, and goals. We'll discuss what brings you to treatment, and I'll listen attentively to your story. It's important for me to get a comprehensive picture of your mental health and overall well-being.

Additionally, I'll explain my approach to treatment and how we can work together to achieve your desired outcomes. We'll set some initial goals and outline a plan tailored to your unique needs.

Overall, my aim is to ensure that you feel heard, supported, and empowered from the very beginning of our journey together. Building trust and rapport in this first session lays the groundwork for meaningful progress and positive change.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Before scheduling a first session with me, it's important for clients to know that I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can openly share their experiences and feel supported in their mental health journey.

My approach is patient-centered and culturally sensitive, with a deep understanding of the diverse challenges that individuals from various backgrounds and cultures may face. I am passionate about promoting mental wellness and empowering my clients to achieve their best possible health outcomes.

I have extensive experience working with adults dealing with a wide range of mental health disorders and substance abuse issues, both in acute care and outpatient settings. My goal is to help clients navigate their unique challenges through personalized treatment plans, including psychopharmacological treatment and medication management.

Above all, I want clients to know that seeking help is a courageous and important step towards healing. I am here to offer professional, empathetic guidance and to support them every step of the way on their path to improved mental wellness.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

In my free time, I love immersing myself in the Florida lifestyle. Spending quality moments with my daughter and family members brings me immense joy. I make the most of what beautiful Tampa Bay and central Florida have to offer, from relaxing at the beach to exploring the thrill of theme parks and other local attractions. Whether it's a day of sun and sand or a fun-filled adventure, I cherish these experiences and the memories they create. It's all about enjoying life to the fullest and appreciating the wonderful community and natural beauty around us.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that truly defines me is my love for embracing and exploring life's adventures. Whether it's enjoying the vibrant Florida lifestyle, spending quality time with my family, or discovering new activities and places, I find joy in making the most of every moment. This sense of adventure and appreciation for the beauty around us is a core part of who I am and how I approach life.
