About Laveta
I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing and eight years of experience in mental health care. I provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment to children, adolescents, and adults across the lifespan. I work with clients facing anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, ADHD, and other psychiatric concerns. Many come seeking clarity, medication management, coping skills, and emotional balance, and I strive to create a supportive, collaborative space for healing and growth.
My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and solution-focused. I combine thorough assessment and thoughtful medication management to promote stability and growth. You can expect to feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your care, while also building practical tools for lasting emotional wellness.
Taking the first step toward support can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Your experiences are valid, and healing is possible with the right support. When you're ready, I welcome you to schedule an appointment so we can begin your journey toward greater balance and well-being together.

"As a woman with eight years of experience in mental health, I bring a culturally grounded, compassionate approach that honors your lived experience and creates a safe space where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered to heal."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a psychiatric provider because I saw firsthand how deeply mental health impacts every part of a person’s life — relationships, physical health, confidence, and overall sense of purpose. I was drawn to the opportunity to not only treat symptoms, but to truly listen, advocate, and help people feel understood. As a woman in healthcare, I also recognized the importance of culturally responsive providers who can bridge gaps in care and create safe spaces for healing. Becoming a psychiatric provider allows me to combine clinical expertise with compassion to help individuals reclaim stability, hope, and empowerment in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who are ready to better understand themselves and take an active role in their mental health journey. I support children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, and trauma-related concerns. I especially connect well with individuals seeking clarity about their symptoms, consistent medication management, and practical tools to improve daily functioning. I also work well with clients who value a collaborative, culturally responsive approach and want a provider who listens, educates, and partners with them to create realistic, sustainable progress.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is not linear — and that doesn’t mean you’re failing. Growth often comes with setbacks, hard conversations, and uncomfortable moments, but each step is part of the process. Healing isn’t about being “fixed”; it’s about gaining insight, building skills, and learning how to navigate life with greater resilience and self-compassion.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where we focus on getting to know you — your concerns, history, current symptoms, strengths, and goals for treatment. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to gain a full understanding of your mental health, medical background, and daily functioning so we can create a clear, individualized plan. If medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss options, benefits, and potential side effects together.
In the early stages of treatment, we focus on building trust, increasing insight, and establishing practical tools to help stabilize symptoms and improve daily life. You can expect collaboration, education about your diagnosis and treatment options, and consistent check-ins to ensure you feel heard and supported as we track your progress.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is grounded in compassion, cultural humility, and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience. As a woman in healthcare, I value the importance of representation, advocacy, and creating spaces where clients feel safe, affirmed, and truly heard. I understand how stigma, systemic barriers, and life stressors can impact mental health, and I approach care with empathy rather than judgment.
I also believe in collaboration and empowerment. My goal is not to make decisions for clients, but to partner with them—providing education, guidance, and support so they can make informed choices about their care and feel confident in their healing journey.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy by first listening closely to each client’s experiences, goals, and concerns, then creating a plan that reflects their unique strengths, challenges, and cultural background. I integrate evidence-based strategies with flexible approaches—combining therapy, coping skills, and medication management when needed—so treatment fits their lifestyle and priorities. Throughout our work, I regularly check in and adjust strategies to ensure progress feels realistic, sustainable, and aligned with what matters most to them.
