Vanessa Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Vanessa offers over 36 years of experience in helping individuals with physical, intellectual, emotional, and mental health challenges and substance use. She has worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and a Certified Substance Use Counselor with the Commonwealth of Virginia and private mental health organizations. She is also an Ordained Minister experienced in pastoral counseling.

Vanessa helps clients grow through strength-based, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered therapy approaches tailored to their concerns. She provides compassionate care, respects each client’s individuality and cultural background, and builds healthy rapport while recognizing the courage it takes to seek help.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I value the human connection and understand that for some individuals, connecting with others can be stressful, as well as difficult to maintain healthy relationships.
