What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who stay open to the process in both the comfort and discomfort.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapy isn't the stereotypical depiction of clients crying about their deepest darkest secrets. Sometimes you laugh. Sometimes I do the most talking. Sometimes you won't like the truths I need to say. It's a mixed bag and nothing like what you see in movies.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want someone to feel confident in their decision to do therapy.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I can strike up a conversation with almost anyone. It's not uncommon for my partner to find me talking to a random stranger in public places like restaurants or lobbies. I always address people by their name, especially cashiers and other service industry workers. If I don't know their name, I'll ask.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
I once worked with a client I diagnosed with agoraphobia and PTSD as a result of past trauma she experienced outside the home. After several weeks of treatment, she was able to enjoy short walks through the neighborhood with her son and occasional fresh air on her front porch. She showed more smiles and laughter gradually over time.
