About Sydney
Hi, my name is Sydney! I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Vermont State University, where I rediscovered my passion for the counseling field and music. I completed my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Old Dominion University in 2021, and I've been working hard in the field ever since. I work with adults of all types of backgrounds and various concerns, but tend to work best with anxiety, interpersonal issues, and self-esteem.
My clients thrive when we focus on increasing overall self-esteem, through identifying values, and implementing coping skills to reduce emotional distress. My main goal with any client is to allow them space to process, accept, and work with their emotions. I allow my clients the space to be themselves without judgment.
We all struggle in one way or another, and we all need a space where we can be ourselves- struggling or not- without judgement. No emotion is too much. If you would like to feel more comfortable feelings, don't hesitate to reach out and talk.

"Counseling is like a mirror, and my job is to pull out and reflect the qualities already within you for you to see more clearly."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I grew up watching my sister struggle with anxiety and depression and all I wanted was to help her. Through her journey, I learned that sometimes the only thing someone needs is an ear to listen. While I was on my journey of learning to help others, I also learned how to help myself, and I want other people to know what I know. My goal as a counselor is to show people that they can be the person they want to be.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who are open to changes, willing to try anything, and willing to put in the work.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I work with clients to identify their goals and what changes they want to see, then use my skills to lead them in that direction.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
During the first session, I like to know more about the symptoms that clients are experiencing and how long they have been experiencing these symptoms. I like to get to know my clients and discover things that may or may not have worked for them in the past to further tailor their therapy to fit their needs.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
The healing process is not linear. You are allowed to have bad days and it is not the end of the world. All feelings are temporary, and those feelings are an indicator of something that might be missing in your life. You have to retrain your brain to find good in the world, but also accept that bad things happen.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I have struggled with anxiety and depression. The biggest thing I learned for myself was to get really comfortable with allowing my emotions to have their time in the spotlight, but then also bringing in the joyous moments and things that bring me peace. I had to purposefully look for things that brought me that feeling of comfort, awe, and beauty.
