Get to know Stephanie

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I wanted to be able to use my life experience to help others as they navigate the challenges they may face. I have a passion to walk alongside others and watch as they see their strengths and begin to work on themselves to become the person they strive to be. It is an amazing experience to see people learn to love who they are, as well as begin to see what amazing purpose they have. I enjoy seeing people utilize the tools that they have learned and begin to put these skills into practice to see real lasting change. I believe it is a wonderful privilege to journey with someone and see them grow.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work with clients with depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder and those who have experienced any forms of trauma or abuse. My goal is to help any client with whatever they are going through.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love working with clients who are ready to take the first step to healing from many of life's challenges.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Taking the first step to reach out and get connected with a counselor is one of the hardest first steps. It takes so much courage to take that step into the unknown to make that phone call or send that email and reaching out to begin your own personal journey to healing.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I was looking for a supportive work environment and have the ability to work with a team to gain more insight and continue to grow in my counseling career.

What inspires you?

Working with people with trauma and other mental health issues to see them grow and change by participating in a safe therapeutic environment.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

It's important to me for the person to feel safe and grow a therapeutic bond with them. Also, to help build trust so they can feel comfortable sharing and that they can be transparent and open with me.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

The most important thing is gaining as much information as possible while building rapport and getting to know more about them.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

That I am transparent, but not too disclosing about myself. I want my client's to feel they can be real with me.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I like to take trips to different places. I enjoy leading a recovery group and being there for others. I love spending time with my family and trying new things.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am highly empathetic and a very loyal person.
