Get to know Stephanie
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I struggled with my own mental health when I was young after the death of my father. Counseling helped me process and heal from my trauma, and showed me the role I wanted to play in the lives of others.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients who are willing to give time and effort in understanding themselves and where they are.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are ready to address their concerns and are willing to collaborate actively to learn new skills and reclaim the authorship of their life's narrative.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That therapy isn't linear, there are times of progress and times that feel stagnant or even difficult that all lead to healing.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is regarded positively in the community as an organization that both views therapists as people while prioritizing the client.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by seeing growth and change take place, it is a humbling experience to witness clients meeting their goals and starting to notice changes in themselves outside of therapy.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Talking about our expectations, their past experiences with therapy and any ideas of what helps them or what doesn't, setting goals for treatment, and getting to know the client!
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to understand why they are seeking therapy and what they hope to get from it.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a resident in counseling so I participate in clinical supervision. Also, I am very casual and aim to make the therapy room as relaxed and authentic as possible.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I have two dogs who I spend free time with, and I love camping and recently have been getting into pickleball.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Something that defines me would be my love for connection with my friends and family, culture, and hobbies.
