About Shanita
Shanita King-Miller is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisee passionate about promoting self-efficacy, resilience, and positive change. She was inspired to study social work after working in hospital settings with clients from various backgrounds. Shanita specializes in anxiety, stress, depression, anger, and coping skills.
Shanita received her Master of Social Work from Capella University. Her favorite intervention strategies used to address client needs are motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, art and play therapy, strengths-based approach, and narrative therapy.
Shanita believes in creating safe spaces for clients to share their experiences and foster and reach their maximum potential. Her goal is to support you on your journey to live a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle while recognizing the unique needs of each client. Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have family members and friends who suffer from mental health issues. I've witnessed the positive impact of therapy treatment. This is the change and solution that I want to be a part of.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are ready for self-discovery and growth. It is motivating to work with clients who are committed to exploring and addressing their unique challenges.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that "it's okay to not be okay." It's okay to ask for support. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign strength and bravery.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of its supportive environment. It is my safe place that allows me to focus on helping clients navigate through life's challenges. What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time at the gym, cooking, sewing, conducting research, reading, and with family.
