About Semaj
I am a Resident in Counseling with 3 years of experience supporting individuals through life’s challenges. In my work, I specialize in helping adults and teens navigate concerns related to trauma, depression, anxiety, and relationship stressors. My goal is to provide a safe and collaborative space where clients feel heard and supported as they work toward building healthier relationships, strengthening coping skills, and enhancing overall well-being.
I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Norfolk State University. My approach integrates evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems techniques, to address client needs while encouraging personal growth, resilience, and positive change.
I am passionate about creating a welcoming environment where your voice is valued. My focus is on empowering clients to recognize their strengths, embrace new perspectives, and take meaningful steps toward breaking cycles of stress or trauma. I am committed to walking alongside you on your journey to healing and lasting emotional wellness.

"As an African American woman, I understand the daily challenges of confronting and navigating Intersectionality."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I recognized the widespread pain many people experience and wanted to offer support. I am especially committed to providing services to individuals who are underrepresented and often underserved.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work with clients who experience trauma and difficulty communicating with others. I am familiar with clients struggling with managing emotions and daily stressors.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Therapy is effective when you are willing to make changes in your life. While stressors may be unavoidable, therapy helps you manage them more effectively. The healing process can be messy and imperfect; there will be moments when you may stumble, but together we will focus on getting back up and moving forward.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Clients can expect honesty and openness.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
Respect and honesty are used as a guide for my practice as a therapist
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
focus on the client’s strengths and tailor therapy to align with their individual goals and needs.
