About Sam
Sam Cowart is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 17 years of experience helping adult clients who are suffering from panic attacks, anxiety, depression, adjustment-related issues, anger, OCD, trauma, PTSD, and more.
Sam utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solutions-focused brief therapy, and a humanistic approach to assist each client as a unique individual. She knows that counseling is inevitably a vulnerable experience. It’s one that gently asks you to let your guard down a bit, and it’s a way to get to know yourself better, regardless of what you’d like to work on.
Maybe you’re going through a particularly hard time, or maybe you find yourself feeling like there’s something in your life you’d like to change. Whatever the reason may be, Sam's number one goal as your counselor is to provide you with a safe and nonjudgmental environment so that you can feel comfortable navigating these things.

"My number one goal as your therapist is to give you a safe, nonjudgmental space to help you get to know yourself better, determine your needs and goals, and to help you build trust and confidence in yourself! "

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
It's hard to pick one thing! I wish all people knew how to validate each other's emotions, as well as their own. Everyone wins in that situation: people feel heard, they feel seen, they feel safe and okay, and we can all move through an emotion faster than we realize when we just allow ourselves and each other to feel our emotions at all. Unfortunately many people don't always have this experience growing up, and they have to learn it's okay to feel how they're feeling.
What inspires you?
I love that therapy is becoming more normalized! I want people to see therapy as normal as going to the doctor. I find that people are learning the language to describe their feelings and are open with their friends and family about going to a therapist.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I'll go over some quick housekeeping stuff, and then I tend to start an intake by asking someone if they've had therapy before and take it from there. A lot of times we touch on various topics as I'm getting to know them, and occasionally someone will come straight into an intake with a specific issue they'd like to get right into. I'm flexible either way!
