Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have seen the beauty and power that comes from therapy. Becoming a counselor allows you to develop an intimate and healing relationship with other people. It's truly life changing and meaningful work. It's a privilege to be a part of the process that improves another person's life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
The clients I work with best are all the clients that take that hard first step in reaching out for help.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with the clients that are feeling at their lowest. The clients that have nowhere else to go but up. The excitement comes from knowing all the possibilities of happiness that can come into their lives.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
We cannot always change our situations but changing our perspectives can be even more powerful.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is giving me the opportunity to do what I love, therapy. While supporting me in my learning on how to do it best.
What inspires you?
Happiness. Defeating the suffocation, pain and suffering can have on oneself.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I will make you smile. Smiles are contagious and before you leave your first session, I will pass my smile on to you. I will give my clients a true judgment free space for them to say what needs to be said.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to develop a rapport with my clients in their first session. I want them to feel comfortable to open up to me and share what they are looking to get out of therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I work at your pace. I am here to help you identify what you are looking for and not to tell you what you need.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to travel and spend time with my family for fun.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very kind-hearted.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
I had a client who was pregnant and suffering from depression, Bi-polar disorder, and suicidal ideations. In the short timeframe I had with her of 3 months we were able to establish goals that she wanted to achieve. We worked on identifying her patterns of behavior and what caused her to feel suicidal to prevent those patterns from continuing. She was able to decrease her episodes of suicidal ideations. She was also able to focus on her goal of obtaining housing and was successful in completing this goal. She participated in parenting classes which alleviated some of the stresses in her life.
