I wish all clients knew that we all have challenges, and make mistakes, there is no failure. there are only opportunities to do a new thing and to take different paths to one day land us in the place we want to be.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I choose to practice at Thriveworks because it is a dynamic platform, that allows therapists to utilize best practices to deliver effective and engaging therapy while utilizing a variety of modalities in various formats. This gives mental health treatment more accessibility for persons who want to seek services.
What inspires you?
I am inspired to have choice-- choice to evolve or remain. It is wonderful to have the freedom to choose to do something different that can change a life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect to receive empathy, respect, engagement and genuine connection in their first session with me. Listening to what brings the client to care and then developing a plan together about how to best approach treatment. Before the close of the session, the client can ask specific questions regarding my approach to therapy and an assignment will be given to prepare for the next session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During the first session, I want to learn what has inspired the client to reach out for assistance, learn if they have participated in therapy previously, what has worked for them, what was least helpful, what would they like to gain from therapy, and what would they need in therapy to be successful.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I'm a ready to work. My style is supportive and direct.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like spending time with family, enjoy reading, and baking, I am a foodie- enjoy trying new foods and visiting new restaurants, love travel, and learning to crochet!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I love to laugh-- it is good for the soul and I strive to do this every day! Nurturing my soul is so very important and I learn new things about myself and what actually nurtures, motivates, and fulfills me daily.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
I had a client that has trauma- sexual abuse, and abuse relationship that is of Indian descent. Presented with anxiety, depression, low self esteem and confidence. Client had married within the past 4 years and has a toddler when presenting to therapy. Her current relationship is not abusive; however, she continued to have negative thoughts about herself and how she would parent and be the wife she wanted while navigating her new family and the cultural requirements she felt her mother-in-law expected. She presented as tearful, flat affect, lack of energy, and ruminating thoughts for 4 sessions. Worked on challenging negative thoughts, challenging anxious thoughts, exploring what the client believed would benefit her now that she was trying to heal and work through trauma. Client found a new sense of self, experienced a decrease in anxiety and depressive symptoms, began to become more assertive, and is in the process of writing her thoughts into a book so that she can help others.
