About Provider

About Ponteaah Monica

Monica Alexander is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience in the mental health and substance use treatment fields. She has provided treatment in various settings and with a wide range of populations. She seeks to help people live more effective lives in order to thrive, not just survive, in life. She specializes in emotional dysregulation, depression disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, interpersonal conflict, grief, major life transitions, complex trauma, and mindfulness practices.

Monica Alexander completed her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MA) at Liberty University in 2012. She is a wife and mother and an active member in her community and church. These roles coupled with clinical training and experience allow her to have an effective approach to problem-solving with modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy, substance use treatment modalities (matrix, seeking safety, living in balance), and motivational interviewing.

Monica is ready! She believes you can do hard things. She wants you to become unstuck and free. Monica is confident that she will be able to provide effective treatment and straight answers, and that she will know the difference between when a client needs information versus affirmation to cope with challenges. If you are looking at this now, take the next step and schedule an appointment with her today!

Get to know Ponteaah Monica

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I became a counselor because I learned that we are not created to deal with challenges alone and there are so many ways to experience a life worth living!

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with those who are ready to take, even the smallest step, in treatment. All I need is willingness!

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

You can do hard things!

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I am ready to engage with our virtual community and see people succeed!

What inspires you?

I am inspired by willingness to try something new. The reason, I believe, mental health symptoms persists, is because old solutions for new problems is ineffective.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

It's a meet and greet! I want to learn goals, set a plan, and began making that plan a reality.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

To have a clear destination in place. To be able to answer, "what do I want to know when this treatment ends?"

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love being with my family, traveling, cooking, and serving in my community and church.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I believe that truth is reflected in accuracy and when someone can be accurate in what they want and who they want to be, healing can begin.
