Why did you decide to become a counselor?
My decision to become a counselor was born from a desire to help others live a more fulfilling life as well as my own personal interest with how the mind works and strive to use this to help others live better lives. I think it is important for those who are going through their own struggles to discover this same curiosity in the way their brain works and how they can use that information to get through it. Too many people have to do this alone and being a counselor means I can help others in their recovery and discovery.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have worked with all sorts of people from young to old and from varied backgrounds. I feel the most important thing overall is having the courage to be ready to work to discover the root of what is causing distress and then having the perseverance to work on addressing it. I truly believe that a therapist should come to each client and be genuinely engaged, provide them with unconditional positive regard, feel deep empathy toward them and allow the client the room and space to be comfortable during the session.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That the struggles they are dealing with don't define them. That with work they can get better and that there is hope.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks gives me the opportunity to focus on each of my clients and grow as a therapist. I strongly believe in the mission and values of Thriveworks which is important to me in choosing a place to work.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I attempt to do what I can to learn as much as possible about the client, what brings them to therapy at this moment and what events from their past might be affecting them. I also want to begin building a relationship with the client which is essential to success in therapy.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy going to the gym, exploring new places, reading and spending time with friends. I love playing board games, watching movies and binging TV shows.
