About Michelle

Michelle “Micky” Greene is a therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for each person she serves. Micky has experience treating a diverse range of diagnoses and life challenges such as trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, and LGBTQIA+ issues. Micky earned her Master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and majored in psychology and gender/sexuality/women’s studies at William & Mary. She uses a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to build a genuine relationship with her clients.

Micky uses a blend of therapeutic interventions - such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing - to meet each client’s unique needs. While she enjoys working with the LGBTQIA+ community and specializes in treating trauma survivors, Micky sincerely welcomes all clients.

No matter what your struggles may be, Micky will bring her warm and calming presence to each session. She has an authentic desire to understand and connect with the real you, and she is excited to help you become the person you want to be.

Get to know Michelle

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

My favorite thing to do as a kid was spend hours on the swing set with my friends, having what we liked to call our “deep conversations.” It wasn’t until much later, in college, that the idea of becoming a social worker and a therapist really took flight. Through classes I took and groups I joined, I discovered that helping survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence is something I feel deeply passionate about and called to do. As I have grown as a therapist, I have come to appreciate and enjoy treating all sorts of mental health struggles and life challenges.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I absolutely love providing identify-affirming therapy to clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community!

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish that all clients knew that your therapist does not have all the answers – you do! Clients should know that ultimately they are the experts in their own lives and they are the most capable person to handle each of their problems. I am hoping you are prepared to come in with the expectation that your therapist is not an expert advice-giver, but rather your ally and unconditional supporter as you work toward your goals.

What inspires you?

I am incredibly inspired by my clients – they prove to me every single day that while we all have struggles, we are more capable of solving them than we may believe. I am in awe of people’s ability to survive harrowing experiences, adapt and grow, and emerge stronger than they were before.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

When I conduct therapy sessions, I act like myself – I will be warm and friendly, nonjudgmental, and sometimes make (hopefully good) jokes (when appropriate). In session one, I’ll help you understand what to expect from therapy and ask you questions to figure out where you’re at now and where you would like to be by the end of treatment. Most importantly, I will try to help you feel comfortable as we get to know each other!

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I have been playing volleyball for more than fifteen years now, and it’s my favorite way to have fun and blow off steam. I also love going on long walks to breathe in the fresh air and process through whatever is going on in my life. I’m almost embarrassed to admit this, but I absolutely love ridiculous reality dating shows like The Bachelor – these shows are such an intriguing social experiment and the perfect way to turn my brain off after a long day!
