Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I believe that suffering and pain are inevitable parts of being human; however, I also believe that people are resilient and strong. I believe that counseling assists people with understanding themselves and their life experiences and assists clients with growing stronger through difficult times. I believe counseling helps to instill hope in others and provides support and empowerment for growth and change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are motivated for treatment and open to the idea of putting in work to achieve change.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Counselors cannot fix problems for you - we help guide you but you have to ultimately put in the work!
What inspires you?
Hearing stories of resilience - the hardships people have endured and overcome, the strength in asking for help, and the empathy people have for each other.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect a review of some housekeeping items: review of informed consent, cancellation policy, billing procedures, and communication preferences. Clients can also expect a discussion of what the therapeutic process entails. Clients will engage with clinician to provide a biopsychosocial background to assist the clinician with understanding client's presenting needs and goals for therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to establish trust with the client and for the client to feel a therapeutic rapport. I want the client to feel safe in sharing information about themselves and being vulnerable. I want to help the client to identify goals and describe what they would like to get out of the counseling experience.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Cook, spend time with my family, friends and my pet, exercise, and listen to music.
