About Maria
Maria Tarquinio-Kuhn is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience working with individuals with mental health concerns. She specializes in helping and assisting children, adults, and seniors with a range of challenges such as anxiety, depression, parenting, anger management, and behavioral issues. Maria also works with the LGBTQIA population and has spent time during her career in crisis counseling, the school system, and adventure-based counseling.
Maria received her Master’s in Counseling and Human Development from St. Lawrence University and an advanced certificate in Mental Health Counseling from The University of Buffalo. She uses a variety of clinical approaches that target client needs including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based methods, and solution-focused therapy.

I hope to help others reach their goals and find happiness in their lives
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients that want to work on their challenges and take accountability for their actions
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with all people of all races, ethnicities, gender, age groups
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I am also human and have had my own challenges in my life. I help with everything I have inside of me and want to be there for the people I help.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I believe that Thriveworks can help me reach my goals to help other people that I would not ordinarily be able to help. They will help me find clients that I am able to work with.
What inspires you?
My family inspires me to be the best person I can be every day
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, we will have our intake. I will ask questions and client will answer to the best of their ability and level of comfort. We will get to know each other just a little bit better and will discuss what treatment will look like after the intake.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like to be able to establish trust and for the client to really know I care about them, this is not just my job, it is my life.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am grateful for clients when they allow me the privilege to be brought into their life and have them share what they have been going through. To me it is a privilege not an entitlement
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend time with my family and I like to travel to different places
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
What defines me is my ability to be friendly and honest with people. I will help anyone I can whenever it is possible. I never expect anything in return.
