Get to know Lisa

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I spent most of my life trying to help people in one way or another. I was working at a school in an underprivileged neighborhood in NYC teaching music and I decided that I wanted to do more. I have a family full of relatives that are in the helping field including my mother, who is a social worker. The path became clear and I knew I could do more as a social work therapist.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish that all clients knew that they have everything they need inside to live a happy, peaceful life. Therapy is the path to uncovering happiness.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I feel like the company aligns with my values. They are dedicated to providing excellent, quality, care for people seeking mental and emotional healing.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my clients and the courage it takes for them to show up and do the work to feel better.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In therapy, you are always the driver. Our first session may be a time when you need to just let it all out or we may spend time getting to know more about your history. I am here to be your person and I will meet you wherever you are.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would hope by the end of our first session we established a relationship and started to build trust.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Compassionate.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I only work with children in person because I believe they need that personal contact. I work well with anyone who is looking for a partner in their journey to becoming their true self.
