Get to know Kelly

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I had an incident with a family counselor, when I was a child where she ended up falling asleep during session. I wanted to help children and families that are in need of support.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Kelly works best with children and young adults. Kelly prefers ages 5-30, but is open and willing to counsel outside those ages.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I enjoy working with children and adolescents and their families.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I am an open, honest, non-judgmental, and tries to make a safe and trustworthy atmosphere for you to feel comfortable.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose a practice that will help me grow and provide services and help to clients as their first priority.

What inspires you?

The drive and willingness to help others especially children and families by understanding the traumas of today.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

A relaxing and comforting atmosphere to help me learn more about you in order to come up with your needs and goals.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In our first session, I want to learn as much as I can about you and help learn about me to make sure you feel a positive rapport. Trying to spill your most vulnerable or traumatic emotions are hard with a stranger. So, I try to make it as comfortable as possible with great toys, games, and art for children and openness and empathy for adults.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I like using new and improved techniques and enjoy getting messy with paint and slime.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I play with my two dogs, Slina and Bruce. I enjoy playing video games, watching movies, and reading.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Not giving up

Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?

I worked an autistic child with selective mutism and social anxiety. He had worked with other therapists before but wouldn't talk. I was able to work with him and got him talking within the first month and after a year was openly talking about his feelings and emotions.
