About Kayla
Hey, my name is Dr. Kayla Thorne! I have received my Doctorate in Human Services, Master of Social Work, and Bachelor of Arts in sociology. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2025 and have provided therapy to children, adolescents, and teenagers since 2023 as a Supervisee in Social Work. I have also provided therapy to college-aged students and adults since 2025. I enjoy the wide variety of clients that I work with who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and life changes. I work with the clients to set goals for therapy and help them achieve those goals throughout the therapy timeframe.
I use a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach and have specialized training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress. I focus on active listening, cognitive restructuring, and assigning homework (as needed) between sessions to support continued growth.
Life can be challenging to navigate at times, especially when you feel anxious, stressed, or alone. I know it can be hard to find someone to trust to talk about your experiences when it seems impossible to deal with the life stressors. I'll be there to meet you where you are during those tough times, so feel free to book a session with me.

"As a bi-racial woman who has experienced trauma and loss of loved ones, I am able to connect with those who are trying to rebuild themselves, and find joy in their everyday lives."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
As a social worker, I quickly became passionate about mental health and therapy. I am drawn to help others through both their best and most difficult times, so I decided becoming a therapist would allow me to do just that.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and stress. I have a background in working with teenagers and adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish clients would know they are not alone in the healing process and it's okay to ask for help. Going to therapy allows clients to talk to someone who will not judge them for their actions or challenges they are navigating. Instead, therapists are there to listen and help guide clients.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
I believe in letting the client lead the topic of discussion at the beginning of the session to ensure they feel supported throughout the session. Throughout therapy, I will assist with helping you reach your overall goal and lessen any symptoms you may be experiencing.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
As someone who has navigating some mental health challenges of my own, I feel called to help those who are navigating challenges.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
During the first session I allow the client to determine what goals they have for therapy. Throughout therapy sessions I will check-in with the client to see if their goals have changed and if there is a specific topic they want to talk about. This allows the therapy session to be tailored specifically to what that client is asking for and needs.
