About Katie

Katie Slone is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 5 years of experience. She specializes in working with individuals ages 14 and up experiencing concerns related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity exploration. Katie collaborates with clients to set goals and tailor a treatment plan based on their needs. She practices from a trauma-based lens and has experience helping those with negative traumatic experiences process their concerns and develop coping strategies to deal with symptoms.

Katie has a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from LaGrange College. She uses a combination of dialectical behavior therapy strategies for concerns related to emotion regulation and cognitive behavioral therapy to address negative thought patterns.

Katie believes in individual autonomy and respects your ability to make decisions, making her a person-centered counselor who allows her clients to set the tone and pace of treatment. Katie will structure sessions to include time for thought processing, psychoeducation, and the discovery of tools and actionable steps toward change. Reach out to Katie today!

Get to know Katie

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I saw the utility of therapy in my own life and wanted to share it with others.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Clients who are excited to come to therapy and pro-actively wanting to change

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

We don't have a magic wand that can make your problems go away - we wish we did! But we are always in your corner and will always support you the best we can.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks provides the structure I need to be the best therapist I can be.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by my clients every day, the amount of stress and difficulties they face while still showing up in their lives as parents, partners, siblings, children, etc. is awe inspiring to me.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In your first session you can expect that I will ask a lot of questions to get to know you better! I believe us getting to know each other is a major component in mental healing.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to accomplish identifying goals and reasons for attending therapy in the first session.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to cook and go to restaurants, play with my cat, play video games and watch tv with my fiance.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My roots as the daughter of a West Virginia coal miner will always keep me humble.
