Dr Joshua Kee is awesome! He gives me examples of what he is trying to tell me, because sometimes it takes me awhile to figure things out. He is extremely easy to talk to, he has great advice, sometimes gives me homework, which is what I need. He keeps me on track, helps me to identify what is really going on. We work on getting to the bottom of a situation and why it might be happening. He has me deal with my feelings and to own them. I look forward to our talks and getting better.

Get to know Joshua

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

This is my life's work. Being a counselor is what I am gifted to do and it brings me great joy and pleasure witnessing individuals improve their lives. Mental health is a real issue that impacts lives and I get to have a role in transforming individuals outlook on life and I do not want to miss it.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I get very excited when I meet with a client that is motivated and eager to try something new and broaden their perspective.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish every client knew that they are not alone. They are worth it. They matter. It is so important that we treat ourselves with the same kind of respect and kindness that we afford to others.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I choose Thriveworks for its versatility in offering various types of therapy and the ability this organization has to address the whole person and all of the needs that go with that.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my faith and by the human spirit of love and compassion that is very evident in this world despite all the challenges that we face as a society.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Client's can expect to meet someone that cares and genuinely wants to know about what they are going through in life and wants to better understand their needs. First sessions are always about learning from the client and better understanding what goals they have for themselves.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I really want to accomplish the feat of understanding. Understanding and making the client feel felt. We all have a need to feel that we are being heard and understood and this experience is often the key to unlocking our potential as individuals.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I really can not get enough of my best pal Ozzie. He is my Golden Shepherd dog that goes with me EVERYWHERE. We are basically inseparable when I am out playing disc golf, traveling, spending time with family, or just exploring new places together out in the wilderness.

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines me apart from my work is my love for family and the place of faith in my life. Faith drives me and imparts purpose into my daily living.
