Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a clinician because as a veteran I saw firsthand the deep impact trauma can have, not only on individuals but on families and communities. I have seen not only suffering but the resilience within individuals. While not all scars are visible that doesn't mean they don't exist and shifting careers developing a space where people could feel seen, heard, and validate became my mission. Helping others navigate their mental health journey allows me to continue to serve.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
My wish for clients would be that they know the counseling journey is unique to them and the process does not look the same for every client. The journey is not a simple one but you will not be alone in the process.
What inspires you?
It is being welcomed into another person's journey and being able to walk alongside of them that motivates me in my own journey as a therapist. Creating a space where clients are able to speak on their own lived experiences when they possibly have not been able to do that in the past. I continue to show up for my clients because I have been on the receiving end as a client and have felt the support and compassion that has allowed me to develop my own sense of self.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session will be steeped in building rapport and establishing the therapeutic relationship. We will need to go through a series of background related questions that will provide me with a broad understanding of the reason you are seeking services. This session will feel slightly more structured than our typical sessions. I will also touch on potential goals or outcomes you wish to work toward
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my off time I enjoy spending time with my family. Together we like to bake and grill. I enjoy being outdoors and spending time soaking up the sun with a good book.
