About Jacob
Jacob Sitton is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has experience working with adults of all age groups and in individual, couple, and group contexts. Though Jacob has worked with clients experiencing a variety of issues and conditions, he most consistently finds himself counseling individuals struggling with chronic anxiety, depression and suicidality, low self-esteem, grief, relational difficulty, and both men's and women's issues. In addition, Jacob has had the privilege of working with clients who are overcoming trauma, battling addiction, or living with borderline personality disorder.
Jacob completed his master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. He adopts a collaborative approach to counseling, acknowledging the client as the expert on their experiences. Jacob's role is to help the client foster the awareness necessary to evaluate their experiences free from any unhealthy measures of worth, and to equip them with the tools to respond appropriately to those experiences.
Jacob holds a deep reverence for the resilience and perseverance his clients exhibit by pursuing mental health, and he regularly finds himself inspired by their progress. Even taking this first step toward wellbeing by exploring potential counselors deserves recognition. If you are willing, Jacob encourages you to take the next step as well and reach out.

"I firmly believe that the counseling process is a collaborative one, and I am excited to walk alongside you during this journey."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
After graduating with a bachelor's in psychology, I was determined to pursue a career oriented around psychology research. However, as time passed, others in my life continued to affirm my capacity for working with people, and I made the decision to apply for a master's program in clinical mental health counseling.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Though I have worked with male and female clients from ages 17 through 60+, most of my experience is in working with adults in their 20s and 30s. However, I am always excited to work with clients outside this range!
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Is it a cop out to say all of them? I have the most experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, and depression is a close second. So I am always excited to work with these clients because I can employ that experience readily. But as I develop professionally, the prospect of walking alongside individuals struggling in different ways is also exciting. Finally some of my clients who achieved the most miraculous leaps of progress were those whose difficulties were not anxiety or depression-related, and those moments are always exciting as well.
What inspires you?
I take constant inspiration from my clients. Walking with them as they strive to grow in spite of their difficulties; getting to see their progress firsthand; celebrating their victories together. These are the things that move me to grow as a counselor and as a person.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
After the initial slog of necessary formalities such as reviewing confidentiality, discussing the nature of counseling, and administering any intake assessments, our first session will primarily be used to get to know each other. Usually for the client this includes discussing why they are seeking counseling in more detail.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy cooking, reading, hiking, board games, connecting with friends and loved ones, and have recently taken up yoga.
