About Hudson
Hudson Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 6 years of experience across the mental health crisis continuum, including inpatient care, community stabilization, and prevention. He works with diverse concerns such as substance use, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. Hudson centers marginalized and under-resourced individuals, using an intersectional approach to support resilience. He welcomes all clients, with a focus on LGBTQ+ folks, disabled individuals, and those impacted by their social identities.
Hudson earned his Master’s in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. He uses an eclectic, client-centered approach to therapy. Grounded in empathy and nonjudgment, he sees the therapeutic relationship as a space to explore new thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while supporting each person’s capacity to grow into who they need to be.
Hudson has dedicated his career to supporting historically silenced communities and supporting clients as they grow into their most authentic selves. If you're seeking a space where you can show up as you are, Hudson welcomes you to reach out and begin your journey.

"As a queer and trans-identified therapist, I know how vital it is to have someone who truly gets it and I'm here to offer a compassionate, affirming space for support."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Growing up in rural Appalachia, I internalized the need to show up for communities without resources. I am passionate about not only providing a safe, compassionate space for clients, but also creating spaces for communities to come together and strengthen the connections that make up the fabric of our society. It is an honor to work with each individual knowing they are a vital part of our shared humanity.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I believe that the therapeutic process is reciprocal, and I learn just as much from my clients as they do from me. Every person has their own unique insights, and sometimes those insights can spark something new for others in similar situations. I want every client to know that their thoughts, experiences, and contributions are just as valuable to the therapy process as mine.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity, adventure, and mindfulness. In my free time, I love making art—whether it’s drawing, painting, or photography. I also find peace and inspiration in nature, whether I’m hiking in the mountains or spending time near water. These moments allow me to recharge and connect with the world around me.
