About Provider

About Esonija

My name is Esonija' Fulgham, and I'm a licensed clinical social worker practicing in VA, DC, and MD. I've been practicing clinical social work independently for almost 15 years. I enjoy the work that I do in helping families and individuals thrive and learn to articulate their lived experiences from a place of empowerment.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, empowerment approaches, and trauma-informed frameworks to help clients live their best lives. My focus is on equipping you with practical coping skills.

I look forward to working with you and am humbled that you've chosen me to share your journey.

Get to know Esonija

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose to become a Social Worker, because I care about overall public health and safety. I also wanted to improve communities by empowering the members of the community. Therapy allows me the space to connect with others at some of their most vulnerable times, and witness them

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with patients who are ready to engage, willing to change and open to learning.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

Therapy is your journey, and it is paced based on your needs. What you put in is also what you get out of it.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

My first session includes psycho-ed on the process of therapy and how models will be used to help them accomplish their goals. The second part of that session is learning all about their bio-psycho-social history.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I am a Humanist by nature. Honoring the universality of the lived human experience guides my practice and helps me to respect each person's unique journey.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

Listening is my best skill. When patients feel seen and heard, a therapist can organically tailor to the patient's needs.
