Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor after going through my own challenges earlier in my life, as well as witnessing the struggles of other people close to me. I recognized the need for mental health services that were more accessible, effective, and compassionate, so I decided to become a counselor myself to provide that for clients.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I value being able to work with a wide range of clients from many diverse backgrounds who may be facing any of a wide variety of challenges. I work best with clients who are willing to be attentive to their mental health and behavior and are motivated to self-reflect and make changes.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I have a special interest in working with clients who are interested in art therapy and clients who have mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, personality disorders such as borderline personality, and clients who are looking to improve their coping skills to manage stress.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In our first session, clients can expect to go through the intake process, which involves giving a lot of background information about themselves and getting oriented to myself and the logistics of beginning therapy. However, what matters most to me in the first session is connecting with new clients and beginning to form a relationship, as well as getting an idea of their goals and how to reach them.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
On my time off, I spend time with my family and my cats, go outside in nature, go to the gym, cook, read, and watch Netflix.
