Claudette Gadson is currently a Supervisee in Social Work (SISW) Resident of the State of Virginia with years of experience. She treats clients of all ages and specializes in depression, grief, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and suicidal/homicidal ideations.

Claudette completed her Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) at Fordham University. The interventions that she utilizes include some elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?


The most rewarding part of being a counselor is knowing that you had a part in affecting the life of another human being, giving hope when people feel hopeless. I have a strong desire to help others and I love inspiring others to be all that they are capable of being and having a bright future.



What types of clients do you work with best?


I feel that I work best with clients that present with symptoms of PSTD, trauma, anxiety, depression, and suicidal/homicidal ideations.



What type of clients are you most excited to work with?


I am excited about working with clients that present with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal/homicidal ideations, eating/conduct disorders.



What's one thing you wish all clients knew?


I am passionate about the job that I do and that I love helping individuals in the time of need.



Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?


I want to see more clients with consistent pay.



What inspires you?


I feel rewarded when I am able to help clients solve their problems or bring effective to change to a situation.



What can clients expect in their first session with you?


They can expect me to be nonjudgmental by creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere actively listening, clarifying, rephrasing, or paraphrasing, validating, and normalizing their feelings or concerns.



What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?


I would start building a rapport with the client, gathering information about why the client want to receive services, discussing my role, and what type of services that they need and expect from me as the clinician.



What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?


I love to meet with client where they are and to be honest and sincere with clients that I work with. I also like to build a good rapport with clients and in order to establish trust and a strong partnership with clients towards effective change.



What do you do for fun/on your time off?


Excercise, take walks, and read.



What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?


I am very compassionate about helping others in the time of need. I feel called to help in any capacity.



Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?


I worked with a 9 year old female client. She presented for services as a having a diagnosis of When client first received intensive services, client had multiple hospitalizations due to engaging in self harm behaviors and acting out in the home. I was able to build a good rapport with the client. I utilized elements of CBT and MI with the client. Client is no longer having suicidal ideations or engaging in self harm behaviors. Client is no longer struggling with having self-esteem issues and has not been hospitalized since I have been working with the client as a clinician.
