Get to know Cassandra
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I know what it’s like to struggle with various things and looking for someone to talk to. I have had my fair share of life adjustments and it’s scary to think you’re alone in those struggles. I never want anyone to feel the way I’ve felt on my darkest days, and because of the counselors I have had that have helped me, I want to be just like them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I work best with clients who are willing to team up with me to work on the things they came to counseling for. I love encouraging clients and helping them see that they have the ability to see change in their lives for the better. I work well with those who want to find hope and are searching for answers to their struggles.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish that clients could see that one session isn’t a “fix it all” a “one and done”. Therapy takes work and it takes hard work, but it is so worth it in the end. I have learned some valuable things because of past therapy and I believe others can too.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks has an amazing reputation, the people that work at Thriveworks emphasize self-care, emotional and physical wellness, as well as maintaining relationships. Thriveworks has a great group of people to work for and work with.
What inspires you?
Personally, living my life to imitate Jesus is what inspires me. I want to be the hands and feet of Jesus and while I would never impose my own values on a client, I believe it is important to show people the love and kindness they deserve - just like Jesus did. It is the sole life of Christ that inspires me and helps me to be a better person.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
It will be an introduction in the first session, not only the intake, but getting to know the client and what they want out of counseling.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to get to know what the client’s goals might be in future sessions. I would like to get a feel for what the client might want to work on in sessions and outside of sessions.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have worked with a group of diverse populations and races and diagnoses from ADHD, to Anxiety, to Life Transitions, to Bipolar. I have an understanding of many things, and though I am not an expert, I am willing to do everything I can to help the client in any way possible.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time I love to read, cook, bake, and watch my favorite shows.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I would say my faith defines me, I am a believer first and foremost.
