About Bertresh
I am Dr. B, Dr. Bertresh, Dr. London or Dr. Nunez, and I have dual licenses as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Virginia. I have been working with children, families, couples, and individuals for over 30 years. In that time, I have found from working with couples that I help serve as their translator to increase communication, understanding, and connection. With individuals, I've helped them thrive by overcoming and significantly decreasing anxiety, anger, depression, lack of motivation, social anxiety, and difficulties communicating.
As your clinician, we will personalize your treatment and utilize your strengths, resources, and passions to help overcome struggles. This means that I will help you manage unwanted thoughts, implement coping skills, learn social skills, reframe triggers, become more assertive, and increase mindfulness resulting in less unwanted symptoms.
Saying life can be heavy, draining, discouraging, and challenging is an understatement, especially when trauma and life circumstances are present. Let's start identifying ways that you can get out of the deep hole that you may be in. I can help you get out of the rut with supportive, unbiased observations to navigate through life's many changes.

"As an African American Christian woman who was raised by two military parents with big families, I have experienced a variety of cultures, loss, blended families, and even divorce which has opened the door to wisdom, insight, and unconditional understanding in the counseling setting."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor to help others remember they are treasures who can overcome all things.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with individuals who are willing to put in the work to help themselves get better. In other words, individuals who do their counseling homework in order to see progress.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I listen to clients to assess their interests, hobbies, passions, and job, which can help techniques be more personalized to the individuals.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
After the intake process where we get to know each other by gathering a whole lot of information, the first session then starts with homework, discussing any tweaks to homework, addressing new techniques, and identifying the next homework(s).
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
As a Christian, I see people as the unique, amazing, wonderful individuals that they are. Therefore, I bring an annoyingly optimistic, easily amused, calm, transparent, supportive, and innovative perspective which is geared towards connecting with individuals, couples, parents, etc thus helping them thrive, rediscover themselves, communicate clearly, and learn ways to manage their unwanted symptoms.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
There is nothing wrong with needing counseling nor attending counseling especially when your "norm" includes being down, discouraged, defeated, hopeless, insignificant, etc. It is ok to take time to do self-care and counseling so that you can rediscover yourself and get back to your peace.
