About Ashley
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bridgewater College and a Master of Science in Counselor Education from Longwood University. I am dual-licensed in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and School Counselor, an approved Clinical Supervisor through the Virginia Board of Counseling, and a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Clinician. I provide counseling services to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioral concerns, school-related issues, and life transitions.
My counseling approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to each client's needs. Drawing from evidence-based practices, including DBT, I help clients develop skills to manage emotions, cope with stress, improve relationships, and navigate challenges. My goal is to empower clients to recognize their strengths, overcome obstacles, and thrive.
I am committed to providing a compassionate and supportive space where growth, healing, and positive change can occur. I believe that every individual has the capacity for resilience and growth, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they work toward their goals. I welcome the opportunity to support you on your journey.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I chose to become a counselor because I have always been drawn to helping others navigate life's challenges and recognize the strengths they may not yet see in themselves. Throughout my life, I have found purpose in being a supportive presence for others—listening without judgment, offering encouragement, and helping people find hope during difficult times. As I pursued my education and career, I realized that counseling would allow me to combine my passion for helping others with my interest in understanding human behavior and emotional well-being. I am especially passionate about working with children, adolescents, and young adults because these years are filled with growth, change, and important life experiences that can shape how individuals view themselves and the world around them. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel safe, valued, and understood. It is an honor to walk alongside clients and families as they navigate challenges, celebrate successes, build resilience, and discover their ability to grow through adversity. Witnessing those moments of growth and helping clients gain confidence in themselves continues to be one of the most meaningful and rewarding parts of my work.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Children and Adoelscents.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is rarely a straight line, and progress often looks different than people expect. Therapy is not about being “fixed,” but about building understanding, skills, and self-compassion over time. Some days may feel like meaningful breakthroughs, while others may feel like small steps or even setbacks; all of these are part of the process. It is important to note that you do not have to wait until things feel overwhelming or unmanageable to seek support. Therapy can be a space for growth, reflection, and strengthening coping skills long before a crisis occurs. Most importantly, I want clients to know that they do not have to go through difficult experiences alone. With the right support, change is possible, and even in the hardest moments, growth and healing can take place.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the first session, I focus on creating a comfortable, supportive space where clients can begin to share what brings them to therapy at their own pace. There is no expectation to have everything figured out—my goal is simply to listen, understand, and begin building a foundation of trust. Early sessions are centered around getting to know you, exploring current concerns, and identifying strengths that can serve as a starting point for growth.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to each client by first taking time to understand their unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. I do not believe in a one-sizefits-all approach to counseling; instead, I view each client as an individual and adjust my approach based on their developmental stage, presenting concerns, personality, and what feels most supportive to them in the therapeutic process. I draw from evidencebased practices, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), while also integrating other therapeutic strategies as needed to best support each client. For some, that may mean focusing more on skill-building and structured coping strategies, while for others it may involve processing emotions, improving selfawareness, or strengthening relationships. I also place strong emphasis on building a trusting therapeutic relationship, as I believe meaningful progress happens when clients feel safe, understood, and respected. Throughout the process, I collaborate with clients to set goals that are realistic, meaningful, and aligned with what they want to change or improve in their lives. Therapy is flexible and responsive, allowing us to adjust as needs evolve so that each client receives support that truly fits them.
