Ashley received her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her favorite therapeutic approaches are parts work and internal family systems techniques, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and traditional talk therapy.
These are challenging times for everyone. Despite being increasingly electronically "connected,” people feel more isolated than ever, but Ashley believes change is always possible! Reach out and find a strategy to work toward being the best version of yourself in a life that honors your values.

"As a neurodiverse woman from the mountains of Appalachia, I approach each new challenge with curiosity, humility, and humor."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I grew up in a family with many psychiatric problems and I have seen how much difference a good therapist makes. I would like to be part of the solution.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who have a hard time feeling "seen": marginalized populations such as trans and neurodivergent women, and those with substance use disorder.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients who feel as though nobody will understand them, or feel judged, and who may have never had therapy before. People with trauma, addictions, and sexual identity issues, and those who have survived abuse often have a difficult time finding someone they can trust.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish they knew that empowerment is for everyone.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks seems to make therapy much more accessible to a wide audience.
What inspires you?
People making progress always inspires me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
They can expect a fairly casual conversation with no pressure during our first session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I like to find out what people's goals are and establish trust and rapport.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Clients should know I use humor a lot.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
My time off is spent doing multiple crafts and walking in the woods.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)
I believe my curiosity defines me.
