Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I came to realize that everyone needs someone with whom they can feel fully safe and vulnerable, to explore whatever is bothering them or preventing them from finding the peace of their own definition. It took a kind, compassionate counselor to help me learn when I was in college that it's okay to not be okay. It is normal to sometimes need help. Everyone needs that at some point in their life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients grappling with phase-of-life issues, whether it's entering or leaving college, entering or leaving a marriage or parenthood or a new career. I work best with clients that need to feel empowered.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with anyone that is willing to be vulnerable and fully honest with themselves, in the name of healing and growth.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew how okay it is to sometimes feel really not okay. And I wish they knew that they will not always feel that way someday.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I appreciate Thriveworks' balance of private practice for the therapist with accessibility for clients. I feel trusted to practice without being micromanaged, while appreciating that clients will be able to get in with their therapist easily.
What inspires you?
Anytime I get to witness a client overcome a personal obstacle, or realize something about themselves that positively affects their issues, I am inspired.
My young children also inspire me to balance staying grounded with not losing sight of the power of having fun and feeling joy.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
We will go over their most pressing issues or symptoms, such as what motivated them to call Thriveworks, get to know one another to build trust, and set some goals to work toward.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to hear about what motivated them to pick up the phone to Thriveworks, and then to set some goals about what we can achieve together. I also want to instill hope in them.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Client should know that I do not rush self-discovering or growth, and that sometimes I will challenge any views of self that is getting in the way of their potential.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend my time off mostly raising my small children with my husband. We enjoy going to the beach, hiking in the mountains, puttering around the yard, having friends over, and going out to dinner.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a childhood cancer survivor, and this has impacted my worldview. It has taught me to believe we can handle anything, and that people are ultimately good when given enough space to do good.
