Armond Leake is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience in the mental health and rehabilitation fields. He supports individuals navigating loss, career changes, divorce, aging, chronic illness, disability, or other major life changes. They might be experiencing depression or anxiety due to their circumstances and need strategies and guidance to help them cope more effectively. Armond enjoys helping clients identify barriers to successfully work through their difficulties and gain the skills to get where they want to be.
Armond received his Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. He utilizes approaches including existential therapy, emotionally focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I enjoy getting to know people and find people very fascinating. I enjoy being of service to others and helping them through difficult times and situations so that they can have the life that they want and dream of.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I like to work with clients who are experiencing significant life events, changes and transitions.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing conflict in relationships, couples, marital, family. Issues on the job, at school, health issues, addictions, disabilities, etc.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Regardless of what one might be going through there is always hope and the possibility that things can change and get better
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I have been wanting to get back to private practice for some time now. Thriveworks offers me the chance to work with a variety of clients and I am looking forward to seeing clients both in-person and virtually on-line.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by people who are motivated and strive to be the best that they can be.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session we will spend some time getting to know one another. I will give you an overview of my counseling style and how I like to work with clients including what you can expect of me. Next we will establish a tentative plan together and identify some goals to begin working on. I will answer any questions that you might have. Finally, we will discuss a schedule that will work best for you and get your next appointment on the books.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a very empathic and compassionate counselor. I am a good listener and easy to talk to. I quickly form strong bonds and working relationships with my clients. I am accepting and will not judge anyone for any reason.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy singing and playing music. I enjoy hiking and being outdoors in nature. I enjoy playing with my dogs and spending time with my family. I enjoy trips to the river and to the beach. I enjoy reading and learning.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am honest, caring, and compassionate person.
