Why did you decide to become a counselor?
As I was growing up, I became aware that people would naturally turn to me to tell me about their life, a situation they may have been going through or would just chat with me. Over time, I realized that I enjoyed listening to others and wanted to be able to provide them with the support, encouragement to accomplish whatever life goal they had for themselves.
What types of clients do you work with best?
For the most part, I believe I work best with clients that are goal-oriented, willing to put the work that it takes into making changes happen and can be honest with themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That it takes a strong person to ask for help in seeking counseling. You are braver than you give yourself credit for.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks due to the flexibility of providing remote or in-person sessions, that it could be either. As like anyone else, we all have gone through lots of changes in the past few years and this helps to be able to connect despite where our client might be or move to.
What inspires you?
I find inspiration in nature, in traveling and witnessing an act of kindness.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect me to attempt to make them feel comfortable as I inform them of the counseling process. I inform them that I know it can be nerve-wracking talking to someone they do not know but I will attempt to make our first session as anxiety-free as possible. I'd reassure them that our sessions are a safe, non-judgmental place to talk and I'm here to guide them along their journey in working on the issue that brought them to counseling.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to accomplish that the client felt heard and seen, and able to discuss their personal matter to the point that they are surprised when time is almost over.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients should know that I am here to be supportive and guide them. That I don't presume to know everything nor have all the answers but I will do my best to help. If it does become something that is beyond my scope of practice or experience, I will let them know because I do not want to provide a disservice.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
On my time off, I enjoy going to the beach, spending time with friends and/or family, traveling to new and/or familiar places and trying new cuisines.
