"Identifying as a person of color and an immigrant who has experienced my own share of mental health and trauma struggles, I value the importance of a non-judgmental, safe space in order to identify that you are more than your past traumatic experiences."

Get to know Srividhya

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I have been an engineer for 8 years, after which I decided to pursue a career in mental health through my lived experiences. The skills I developed during my engineering career, such as being a strong team-player, effective problem-solving, combined with empathic communication enabled me to seamlessly venture into the human service sector.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I primarily work with adults (18-64 yrs old), with a feminist approach, who present with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and/or self-esteem issues.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I thrive well while working with young adults through a feminist approach who present with anxiety, depression, self-esteem and/or relationship issues.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That they are not alone in their healing journey.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I love the group practice model utilizing the collective neural net of intelligent and empathic brains committed to healing people in their mental health struggles.

What inspires you?

Human resiliency inspires me.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

My focus in therapy is on the client and meeting the client “where they are at”. I usually try to gather the client's family history, social history, any substance use history, their life stressors at this point in their healing journey. This usually spans across 2-3 initial sessions so we can build the rapport and estimate client-therapist fit appropriately in the therapeutic relationship.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I'd try and complete a basic risk assessment and ensure safety plan for the client has been established in the event of future such contingencies.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I do strive to ensure I take up a culturally competent approach with clients to understand and appreciate the client’s culture in therapy. Moreover, I do want to make sure the client understands that I do not judge the client’s experiences shared in session and make every effort possible to ensure that the client is comfortable and able to share freely, knowing this is a safe space to share.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I am a mother of two toddlers who love to enjoy pulling my leg all day, sometimes literally. For leisure and to find my peace, I enjoy going on long nature walks. I love to mindfully crochet and perform yoga for self-care!

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My ability to connect with people in an authentic manner enables me to stay true and honest in this interconnected web of living beings.
