About Sayra
Hi, I'm Sayra Medina, a licensed professional counselor with over 15 years of experience in the behavioral health field. I believe most people are doing the best they can with the tools, experiences, and stories they have been given. My role is not to tell clients who they should be, but to help them better understand who they are. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and trauma. Together, we create a space for self-discovery, healing, and meaningful growth.
I believe healing is not always found through words alone. Drawing from play therapy, experiential techniques, and evidence-based practices, I create opportunities for clients to explore, reflect, and learn in ways that feel engaging and meaningful. My goal is to help clients gain insight, strengthen resilience, and move toward lasting growth.
Whatever brings you to therapy, I believe meaningful change begins with the courage to show up and the willingness to be curious about your own story. If you are ready to take that next step, I look forward to creating a space where you can explore, heal, and grow at a pace that feels right for you.

"I believe healing begins with feeling genuinely seen, understood, and supported as you reconnect with your strengths and move toward the life you want to create."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I truly believe this is my purpose. My own life experiences helped me understand the importance of having support during difficult seasons, and they inspired me to pursue a career where I could help others navigate their own challenges. As I entered the field, I became increasingly passionate about understanding people, their stories, and what helps them heal, grow, and move forward. Over the years, that passion has continued to grow as I have worked with individuals, children, and families from diverse backgrounds. It is a privilege to walk alongside people as they discover their strengths, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful change in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work especially well with adolescents, young adults, and individuals navigating life transitions. I am passionate about helping clients recognize their strengths, build confidence, and feel empowered to create meaningful change in their lives. Throughout my career, I have also been drawn to working with individuals who may feel misunderstood, overlooked, or defined by labels rather than their potential. I believe every person has a unique story, and it is a privilege to be invited into that story. My goal is to create a supportive environment where clients feel seen, encouraged, and motivated as they discover what is possible for themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that growth is always possible. Throughout my own life, I have learned that none of us have everything figured out, and that is okay. I believe we are all lifelong learners, capable of gaining new perspectives, developing new skills, and continuing to grow throughout every stage of life. Therapy is not about being perfect or having all the answers. Sometimes growth begins with something as simple as making the call, scheduling the appointment, or showing up for yourself in a new way. Every step forward matters, and meaningful change often starts long before we realize it.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Clients can expect a supportive, judgmentfree space where they can share at their own pace. My goal in the first session is to understand what brings them to therapy, identify their goals, and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. Together, we create a plan that supports growth, healing, and meaningful change.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I am passionate about helping clients recognize their strengths, build confidence, and feel empowered to step into their potential.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe every client is unique, so I tailor therapy to their individual needs, strengths, goals, and experiences. I draw from a variety of evidence-based and experiential approaches to create a therapeutic experience that feels meaningful, engaging, and relevant to each person. Together, we identify what works best and build a plan that supports growth, healing, and the opportunity to step into their potential.
