Sarah Whitlock is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She is passionate about supporting adolescents, adults, and seniors as they navigate life’s challenges and pursue personal growth. Her areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, grief, chronic illness, and major life transitions. Sarah is known for her warm, compassionate approach and for helping clients find purpose and strength within themselves.
Sarah earned her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston. She draws from mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to tailor care to each person’s needs. She believes healing starts with trust and is honored to walk alongside clients on their journey.
Sarah understands that seeking help is deeply personal. She aims to create a safe space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. Whether you're coping with loss, facing transitions, or simply seeking clarity, Sarah is here to support you as you turn the page and begin a new chapter in your life.

Get to know Sarah
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Ever since I can remember, I have always been fascinated with the concept and reasoning behind, keeping secrets. . I also realize that I have a love for people that is unmatched. I also understand that I am not going to be an acrobat because my legs and feet are primarily for decoration. I truly enjoy helping others and my main desire and motivation is to add value and help others.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I enjoy working with adolescents as well as young adults and seniors. And addition, I truly enjoy working with individuals that have been incarcerated or are currently incarcerated. This especially includes teenagers in the juvenile justice system. I also have a heart for working with individuals and the LBGTQA Plus community as well as polyamorous families.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Honestly, I enjoy working with a variety of clients, and I am truly excited about utilizing my experiences, not only a therapy, but in continuing education courses to further my own professional growth and development.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Honestly, I would like my clients to know that I truly have a blast working with them, and I am so excited about growing at the same time.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I truly enjoy the culture of facilitating education, educational curiosity that thrive works provides as well as the unity and diversity that exist within the culture. I believe that I can thrive and sore professionally and I am so excited about being able to do so.
What inspires you?
The blessing that is fires me. The most is having the opportunity to see and be a small part of walking with clients through their journeys and providing security and support as they learn to thrive and the freedom of healing and wellness. I love being a therapist!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My approach to the first session with clients is very informal. requested otherwise.. I will also share the fact that I am very appreciative that clients have decided to come to therapy. Just by engaging in this process initially, clients are saving others lives as well, just by being here and showing up for their own health and well-being . I always convey that working with clients is a huge opportunity for my own personal and professional growth, and it is truly an honor to serve others with the opportunities that I have been given to learn and assist others.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to convey the heartfelt message that although this journey of starting therapy is probably uncomfortable that it is actually the beginning of a journey of healing and personal growth. I also want Lance to know that I am there taking support and learn as someone progresses overtime.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a very open, transparent individual. I welcome questions of any kind, especially about my own physical differences that will be very apparent because I am a wheelchair user.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love hanging out with family and friends, engaging and volunteering with my church community and just having fun overall. I also have the best service dog in the world! He has a golden retriever and he has my heart. I am on ashamedly a dog mom.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I believe that laughter is contagious and I love a good belly laugh :-)
