About Rebecca
Rebecca Greenwood is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has had over 15 years of experience working with children and adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders as well as their families, particularly adolescents with depression/anxiety, self-esteem issues, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant, body dysmorphia, emotional deregulation issues, substance abuse issues, and parent-child relations. Rebecca has had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings from day treatment to community mental health clinics. Her work in community mental health centers allowed her not only to work with children and adolescents, but also with adults diagnosed with mental health disorders and dual diagnoses: depression, anxiety, mood disorders, workplace issues, and substance abuse issues.
Rebecca completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Hastings College and her Master of Science (MA) in Human Services with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling at Capella University. She is an Affiliate Sex Offender Treatment Provider (ASOTP). One thing that Rebecca has learned in working with adolescents, which she thinks is true for everyone, is that they want to feel heard and validated. Life can be really hard. Many of Rebecca’s clients have been in a great deal of emotional pain, some believing that the pain will never go away.
Rebecca’s therapeutic approach respects the person, providing a safe nonjudgmental climate. She uses a strengths-based and cognitive behavioral approach, and strives to find techniques that will fit each client. Rebecca views counseling as a team effort, working alongside you to help you meet your goals. Challenges do not have to define or incapacitate you. Rather, they can be the catalyst for growth and change in ways you may not expect. If you have struggled with or are struggling with emotional pain, Rebecca hopes that you will just try one more time. Come talk with her or another therapist. Life can be better. It’s time you start to live your best life, and it would be Rebecca’s honor and privilege to walk with you on your journey.

"My motto is “There are no bad kids; each is doing the best they can.” As a clinician with 15+ years working with some of the toughest kids and adolescents, I have yet to meet a client I cannot make some kind of connection with."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
When I was about 15 I was really struggling, and I didn’t tell anyone. That made such an impact on me I knew I wanted to be counselor. My commitment to my clients is that they leave the session feeling heard and understood.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
They are not alone and it will and can get better. Never give up hope!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks understands that counselors want to be able to do what they do best: help their clients not get lost in paperwork and meetings.
What inspires you?
When a client tells me they have had lots of counselors, and they couldn’t open up-but now they can. One young man I was working with recently shared this with me and then thanked me for not judging him but letting him talk with out judgement. That inspires me!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Typically, my first sessions I like to call a “meet and greet.” I like to find out why the client is coming in, who is in their lives and what is important to them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
To leave the session feeing heard, validated and that there is hope.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Love to garden, spend as much time with my new granddaughter, my dogs, travel, photography and if I had lots of time off I love to sew-quilt.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
That they are in good hands, and all they need to do is just show up!
