Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I chose to become a counselor because helping people and offering support is something that comes naturally to me. Throughout my life, I've always found myself surrounded by individuals who wanted to talk and share their challenges with me. Being able to listen with compassion and provide assistance during difficult times has been a consistent theme in my life. I have a genuine passion for understanding others and helping them navigate the complexities of their lives, which is why becoming a counselor feels like an authentic extension of my calling. It's not just a job, but a lifelong commitment to being a supportive presence for those in need.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients that are receptive to new ideas and are willing to try different approaches to achieve their objectives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients who believe in therapy, accept the challenges of learning new skills and applying them to their lives daily and their lives have changed for the better. Clients who are willing to take the journey of counseling with the realization that therapeutic growth is a gradual and evolving process.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients understood that seeking help is a step towards progress. Therapy is a collaborative journey where we work together to uncover answers.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I was talking to a therapist friend of mine on a normal day, she spoke highly of Thriveworks and encouraged me to explore the possibility of joining her team. The goals and values of Thriveworks are the same goals and values that are important to me, which are based on providing excellence in client care.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is seeing individuals come together to resolve challenges and extend support to one another. I am inspired by the profound impact people can initiate in their own lives simply by having a compassionate listener by their side during some of their darkest moments resonates deeply with me. I find inspiration in those who not only voice the need for change but actively contribute to its realization through persistent hard work and unwavering dedication. Seeing people grow and achieve their goals motivates me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can anticipate an atmosphere of genuine warmth and compassion during our interactions, and foster a space that is not only inviting but also entirely free from judgment. Together, we will collaboratively establish clear, measurable goals tailored to their needs, enabling them to focus on their journey toward personal growth and fulfillment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, my primary goal is to establish a solid therapeutic relationship, understand the client's concerns comprehensively, and collaboratively set clear goals for future sessions.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
That I am experienced and will be present to them in their journey. I want them to understand that I promote therapeutic alliance where I will have my role and they will have theirs, as well. I desire to help them find a better path to find peace through their challenges.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending quality time with my family, attending church fellowship, traveling, and shopping.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I like to try new things, persistent and courageous.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
In counseling sessions with a teenage girl who was experiencing behavioral challenges such as school truancy, non-compliance, and resistance, there was a positive transformation that occurred after just a few sessions. Both the client and her parents reported that she had made significant improvements in both her academic and home environments. Witnessing this positive shift was not only fulfilling but also marked an exciting turn in her journey. One unique aspect was the client’s decision to incorporate prayer after each session. This unexpected development showcased a newfound dimension to her coping mechanisms and highlighted the emotional and spiritual growth that had taken place during our counseling sessions. It serves as a touching reminder of the multifaceted nature of positive change and the potential for holistic transformation when addressing not only behavioral challenges but also the emotional and spiritual well-being of individuals.
