"I listen without judgement, and as a Black woman who grew up in a rural community in East Texas, I know firsthand how powerful it is to be heard, understood, and appreciated."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I initially started my career as a journalist. After covering the impact of a natural disaster in 2005, I thought I would make a greater difference in the world helping people recover their mental and emotional well-being.
What types of clients do you work with best?
My down-to-earth and empathic nature leads me to accept anyone regardless of race, culture, sexual orientation, gender or religion. I work best with clients who come ready to work, but even have experience with resistant and mandated clients.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to support LGBTQIA+ clients who feel hopeless and anxious in this changing societal structure.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they are not broken and are deserving of respect and acceptance. I wish clients knew that therapists are human and not infallible.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I wanted to work within a culture that prioritizes the well-being of the therapist, and offers support and growth both clinically and professionally.
What inspires you?
Joy. Pain. Animals. Music
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I listen to understand their experience.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to understand why they are choosing a counseling treatment episode at this time. I want to understand their perspective of themselves and build a working relationship where they leave feeling hopeful.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have a quirky sense of humor, but I am not afraid to to confront or challenge limiting beliefs.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to hike. I take frequent walks just to get some sunlight. I like to sing in the shower and dance in the mirror. I write poetry and study animal behavior for fun.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am defined by my resilience. I have overcome many obstacles and used them to my benefit instead of letting them limit me.
