About Melissa

Melissa Fogarty is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience. She started her career with children and adolescents at risk for mental health issues such as personality disorders, mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, abuse, depression, and anxiety. She soon discovered it is important to consider outside influences on behavior and began working with families as a system. This allows clients to share their stories and allows Melissa to put all of the pieces together for a better understanding. A passion for helping others live their best lives drives Melissa to be so dedicated.

Melissa earned her Master’s in Counseling from Amberton University. She uses a systems approach, including family systems, cognitive reprocessing therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy to help clients. The goal is to find the missing pieces to your puzzle. Families may be invited to help create a supportive environment.

Melissa takes an analytical approach. By seeing things through her clients' eyes, Melissa has an uncanny ability to completely empathize with her clients, meet them where they are without judgment, and create a safe space to work together on finding answers. Reach out today!

Get to know Melissa

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Coming from a dysfunctional family myself I witnessed constant conflict. I developed a strong need to find understanding and create order.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work well with clients that are willing to be open and trust that I am motivated by a true passion to help.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Family systems are top of the list as their is almost a spiritual connection with all parts of persona and develop a way to include all aspects of a person to create wholeness.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That everyone has the ability to be happy again.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I know that their are people that for some reason are unable to get to a therapist appointment and receiving help from the comfort of your home is sometimes the only option. For example working single parents, social fears, disability and lack of transportation.

What inspires you?

The passion for learning about new things and people.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect to be able to talk about anything they want with the understanding that they can determine the direction of the sessions.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

To create a space that is based on trust.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

That the client is important and is in capable hands. Therapy can be life changing.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Outdoor activities, cooking and reading.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Being proud of accomplishments and knowing that I can rewrite my story with the ending that I want.
