Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have wanted to be a counselor since I remember. Being a therapist is like a hobby for me. Some people play golf for a hobby, and I practice therapy!
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have worked with all types of clients, but I would say if I had to choose it would be couples therapy and females ages 30 and up.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Couples and anyone suffering from something that no other therapist has been able to tackle.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
How to not worry about something that does not exist or that you cannot control.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
The hybrid of having a brick and mortar location and teleservices.
What inspires you?
When a client has a real breakthrough and, as a result, finally decides to implement real change in their life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I very much like to follow the Cognitive Behavior Therapy thought process of the past. I like to get up to speed on the past in the first session with the goal of moving to the present and the future before the end of the first session. I want clients to realize we can't go back but we can go forward and make changes for the future.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Sometimes clients are overwhelmed by what is most important to focus on first. In the first session we will outline goals for the next three sessions and what is expected weekly in order to make counseling productive.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I won't let you blame others or depend on others to get better. You are in counseling to work on you and that is what I will be focusing on.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Play pickleball and volunteer as a counselor.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My faith and children.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
A client leaving a cult after years of torture and dedicating her life to Christ.
