About Kathryn Nin
Nin is a compassionate and motivated therapist with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and their families. Since beginning her practice in 2022, she has drawn upon her seven years of experience as a teacher and school counselor to offer specialized support to children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD. This includes navigating school 504s and IEPs, accommodating house chores and school work, strengthening struggling friendships and other relationships, and the rarely-discussed emotional struggles of ADHD. As ADHD frequently coexists with other challenges, Nin has experience in supporting individuals with comorbidities such as depression, anxiety, autism, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and more. She is also trained in EMDR for trauma-care should that appeal to her clients. Parent coaching is one of her specialties and most enthusiastic endeavors, especially for parents of neurodiverse children. Nin helps parents discover strategies that promote healthy relationships and thriving families.
Nin’s approach is relational (1.5/2), multi-culturally informed, and flexible, always adapting to meet the unique needs of each person she works with. Her work is grounded in a belief that every individual is worthy of understanding, respect, and care, no matter their culture, religion, or personal expression. She strongly believes that everyone deserves a space where they can feel seen and supported, without judgment. She also incorporates meditation and mindfulness techniques, and the occasional nature walk or spiritual discussion if desired.
“I will not rescue you, for you are not powerless. I will not fix you, for you are not broken. I will not heal you, for I see you in your wholeness. I will walk with you through the darkness as you remember your light.”

"As a neuro-divergent person with multiple diagnoses myself, I can offer insight and empathy towards many of the struggles children and parents may bring into the therapy environment. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
As a teacher I often had great relationships with my students, which meant they came seeking my support for all sorts of issues during the school day. Sometimes it was their relationships or family issues, whatever was weighing on them. I remember advising some of my students to go and speak with their school counselor, but they'd protest and say that they'd rather speak with me. Those connections were easily one of my favorites parts of my job, but I knew I didn't have the training I needed to really help guide them as they desired. So I decided to go out and get it, by entering into graduate school. I absolutely love counseling and know I made the right choice.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Many teenagers come into therapy feeling resistant to the therapy process. I endeavor to create a space where they can make the most out of our time together and feel relaxed and supported.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Children and adolescents mostly. I also enjoy working with adults on queer issues, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That you're not alone, and it's okay to be human. Life is hard. Really hard. I think we all need help getting through it.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks handles all of my billing, insurance, scheduling, and marketing needs. This allows me to spend all of my time and effort applying my strengths and focusing on quality client care.
What inspires you?
Children do. Their capacity for love and the clear way they see life often warms my heart. I also often find inspiration out in nature, and in human connections.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
We will discuss what you can expect out of our sessions and the methods I can employ to best help you in the process as I will adapt my modality based on the unique individual. I'll want to know what brings you in to therapy and what you're wanting out of the time we spend together. You can expect that I will give to you unconditional positive regard, an empathetic ear, and an informed and educated approach. For children, they can expect some play-time! With adolescents, we will engage in activities, art, music, and sometimes just talk. For adults, you can expect a comfortable and non-judgmental space to focus on yourself and your goals as you deserve.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I'd like to get an understanding of what you would like to get out of our time together. If we could set a goal or have you walk away with a clear idea of what you'd like to accomplish or work on over the next week, that would be lovely.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
A good therapeutic relationship is the key to growth and change. I hope that we will be a good match, and adapt my style to best fit your needs, but if we don't mesh, I will not take it personally, and I will endeavor to support you while we transition you to the best environment and personnel match for your endeavors.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy hiking, spoiling my cat Basil, tending to my plants, and playing video games.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I have a deep care for the planet and the people, plants, and animals that live on and traverse it.
