Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Growing up, I had always gravitated towards comforting and understanding those in pain. I had often been the "do you want to talk about it" friend, or the "it's okay if you want to cry it out" friend. Being a counselor continues to be such a fulfilling experience because I get to assist individuals in their healing and help them make sense of it all along the way.
What types of clients do you work with best?
My ideal client is someone who, at minimum, has researched "therapy near me". I am excited to work with any client who has just started to become curious about therapy, has been in therapy for years now, or even someone who is prepared with color-coded pages of therapy goals in the first session. Therapy is for everyone, at any stage. If this is your first time trying therapy, welcome! If this a return to therapy, welcome back!
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with adult clients who are ready to explore their inner world and learn a great deal along the way.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they have a unique story that deserves to be heard and a unique existence that deserves to be seen. In this incredibly fast-paced and often unforgiving world, therapy is a chance to slow down and remind yourself that you are human.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks because it allows me to reach a wide variety of people in need. Thriveworks allows therapy to become accessible, approachable, and affordable to those that may find the idea of therapy intimidating or out-of-reach.
What inspires you?
Seeing human kindness. We can often get clouded by negativity and life's hardships, but when we really look closely there is a lot of beauty out there. There is also so much beauty within us, we just have to sometimes wipe down our lenses to see it.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My clients can expect a competent professional who is motivated to understand their therapeutic goals and to establish a foundation for a working therapeutic relationship. Rapport is essential for clients to feel safe and secure, and I will be steadfast in creating and maintaining an environment that works for you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The first session is all about establishing safety for my clients. We will have an open and collaborative conversation about what our therapy sessions may look like, and I will provide transparency to any questions you may have. I like to gather some information about what has led you to therapy at this time, and we can continue to explore this in future sessions. I will ask a variety of questions that will give me a general understanding of your background, which is a great way to reference different moments in your life as we move forward in the therapeutic process. The first session, as for all sessions, will be at my client's pace.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am very calm-natured and grounded. This encourages a safe environment for you to process heavy or uncomfortable emotions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I have entered a very peaceful era in my life and find enjoyment in very simple things. I love scrolling through local bookstores, playing board games, getting some sun on the lake, or hugging all the dogs I can at the park.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
The one thing that defines me is my consistent strive for balance in life.
