Hi! I am Kassie Thurman and I am licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have a lot of experience in assisting clients with anxiety, depression, and difficulty adjusting to changes in their lives, whether that is marriage, the birth of a child, divorce, or the death of a loved one.

My approach to working with clients is collaborative and customized to your needs and unique situation; this includes supporting you in developing coping tactics that work in real life situations. I assist individuals in lowering anxiety and stress so they can approach everyday challenges with confidence in themselves and support from those around them.

Because counseling is an intimate process, it is OK and normal to be uncomfortable; after all, you're meeting a new person! You deserve a safe place to discover your feelings and find resolutions that work for you; my objective is to assist and support you through that process with empathy and real-world tools.

"I have over 15 years of experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression; I have specialized in the last 10 years with working with individuals who have experienced trauma, either recently or while growing up. Too often we dismiss how these events impact us and change our view of ourselves, others, and the world around us."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

The bottom line is that I want to help people; I believe that everyone is born on a pedestal but due to how we are treated by others, and how we begin to look at ourselves causes us to disbelieve that notion. My aim is to help my clients realize their worth and potential and embrace it fully.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who want to do the work to embrace who they are and understand that counseling is a process or a pathway.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients understood that they are exceptional human beings and they are worth the effort and time.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Our first session together will focus on getting to know each other and learning about what you are hoping to achieve in counseling. Afterwards, we will discuss goals and begin to work on a plan to achieve those goals.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My experiences with life, growing up in a multicultural family, marriage, divorce, single parent, blended family, grief, adoption, trauma, and going back to school in my 30's, have taught me that every person is unique and worth dignity and respect.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

Just as every person is unique, therapy needs to be geared towards what that person requires to be successful.
